How do I measure for my gallery rail?
Measure the length of the shelf edge where the rail will sit, then take off about ½″ at each end so the posts sit neatly inside the edge. That is your front length. For returns, measure from the front edge back towards the wall.
What are returns?
Returns are the short side rails that turn 90° at the ends and run back towards the wall, so items can't slide off the sides. Choose one side, both sides, or a straight rail with no returns. The corners use solid brass corner posts.
How many posts will I get?
Every rail has an end post at each end, a corner post at each return and center (thru) posts so no span is longer than about 20″. The builder counts them for you, and the exact positions are shown on your drawing before we make it.
What size are the posts and rod?
Each post stands about 76 mm (3″) tall: a 35 mm round base with two screw holes, a tapered turned stem and a solid brass ball on top that the 8 mm rod runs through.
Which finish should I pick?
Unlacquered brass darkens to a warm living patina over time and can be polished back to bright. Polished and brushed brass keep their look, aged bronze comes already darkened, and the copper and chrome finishes match other metals in your room. Match it to your hardware for the best result.
Solid rod or hollow rod?
Both are 8 mm brass and look the same once installed. The solid rod is heavier and the most rigid, best for long runs and heavy use. The hollow rod is a lighter brass tube, ideal for shorter shelves and display ledges.
How is it installed?
Each post screws down through its base into the shelf, mantel or counter. Matching screws are included. On stone, use a small masonry bit and anchors. Most clients install it themselves in under an hour.
How long does it take to arrive?
Each rail is made to order. We send you a drawing within one business day, and your rail ships 10–14 business days after you approve it, with tracking.
My size isn't in the builder. What now?
For runs longer than 157″, sizes between the listed ones, L or U shapes around corners, or curved shelves, use the quote request. We reply with a drawing and invoice within one business day.
